Mind mapping is useful for getting an overview of a concept's operational envelope and the path you must take to accomplish your goal. It lacks the vast potential of other techniques to create entirely new products. But mind mapping is a good way to continue a brainstorming session into its next phase: project planning. The basic idea of mind mapping is to have a goal and work out the smallest possible steps backward from that goal to your current position in the project. In the generic example, the goal is "A" and the "now" starting point is "X." Each bubble represents a task between you and your goal.
